GUILSFIELD travel to Prestatyn Town for the JD Cymru North season opener tonight (Friday).

Director of football Nathan Leonard expected a tough test against one of the title favourites.

“It is a really tough test for us,” said Leonard. “Along with Rhyl are probably the favourites for the league but we go with great confidence from a strong start to the season.

“They have a very very good squad, great depth and probably the best player in the league in Rob Hughes so we know we are up against it and most will not be giving us a chance.”

However the Guils make the trip having enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season having progressed to the third round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Leonard backed the Guils squad and dubbed the current crop as “the best squad in the club’s history.”

“We have a very very good group of lads here and if our game plan works out I believe we can get something,” said Leonard.

“This is the best squad we’ve ever had in my opinion so we need to step up now and show that.

“We got bullied last season at their place and it was men against boys in tough weather conditions and I always remind the lads of that day.

“I want them to put that right Friday night and I’m sure we will give it everything we’ve got.

“We can’t wait to get the league season going and hopefully it will be a successful one.”

Adam Davies and Jolyon Harries bid to make their league debuts but defender James Parry remains an absentee through injury.
