NEWTOWN manager Chris Hughes has backed his side to hit the ground running at home to Cefn Druids tonight (Friday).

The Robins host the Wrexham side with confidence high following a 2-0 victory over Ammanford in the Nathaniel MG Cup last week.

“It was a pleasing victory but we wasted far too many chances and should have secured the game long before we did,” said Hughes.

“It will be another tough test against Druids who are always organised and competitive. We have been looking forward to this one since the fixtures were announced so we cannot wait to get going now.”

Hughes confirmed the Robins could add one further player to the ranks by the weekend.

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean McAllister joined from Chester last week along with midfielder Jack Thorn who arrives on a six month loan deal from Wrexham.

Hughes said: “We are happy with our summer business.

“We have brought in quality and hopefully if we can the paper work done for one more player we will be set for the season.

“Every club is the same but we want to start the season with three points and give ourselves something to build on but we expect a tough game and know we will have to battle for everything.”
