THE Pandy Butchers Classic Lanes Road Rally raised £700 for Cancer Research UK.

The Welsh Border Car Club organised event was contested in memory of the late Gill Wood whose legacy and love of rallying continues to inspire three years after her passing.

More than 60 crews were led home by Aled Stephens and Clive Jones with Llanfyllin’s Glyn Price and Ryan Griffiths second in their Ford Escort Mk2.

The top placed Novice crew of Zac Lewis and Alun Horn built on a cautious first half performance with some excellent times in the second half and were able to round off the top five overall places as the event moved to the finish at Welshpool Livestock Sales.

Scooping up top spot in the Semi Expert class was Danny Hanson and Lucy Norbury in their Citroen Saxo.

Spokesperson Sian Langford said: “Events like this don’t happen without a great deal of support and more than 70 marshals gave up their time to ensure the night ran safely and smoothly.

“The organising team cannot thank the community enough for their continued support. From homeowners en route to the families who visited the start and made Welshpool Livestock Market a hive of activity. It’s great to see a local event growing year on year.”
