BUILTH Wells began the MMP-NL Mid Wales League One season with a bang with a 3-2 victory over Berriew.

Jack Hammond starred with an opening day double at the Lant with Mark Jones also on target to secure the spoils with Berriew remaining in contention through Richard Davies and Steffan Rogers.

Meanwhile Bow Street toasted a 2-1 opening day victory at home to Caersws.

Llion Jenkins and Ryan Evans goals proved enough for the Magpies with Peter Rees reducing the arrears for the Bluebirds.

Title favourites Llanidloes Town laid down a marker on Friday night with a 4-0 win at Montgomery Town.

New signings Dafydd Carruthers and Niall Coleridge were among the scorers with Josh Hartrick and Connor Bird completing the tally.

Llandrindod Wells also tasted opening night glory with Mike Collister and Kieran McCarley on target in a 2-0 win at Radnor Valley.

Elsewhere Will Thomas scored all of Welshpool Town’s goals in a 4-3 win at Carno while the hosts remained in contention through Josh Matthews, Andy Evans and Joseph Bell.

Max McLaughlin struck twice in Kerry’s 4-2 win at home to Aberaeron while a goal each from Mat Mumford and Luke Mumford cancelled replies from Liam Doherty and Matt Evans.

Four Crosses announced their third tier return with goals from Kyle Wilson and Steve Bishton cancelling a Nick Williams reply in a 2-1 win at Tywyn Bryncrug.

Meanwhile Hay St Marys also celebrated a winning return with doubles from Matty Tong and Greg Preece inspiring a 7-1 win at Llansantffraid.

Jack Evans, Callum Maddy and Adi Lawford completed the scoring while Jake Harris reduced the arrears with a consolation for the Saints.
