SAM Morris outshone Beacon with a century as Alberbury strolled to a 77 run victory at Pecknall Farm.

The hosts were on the ropes at 20-3 with Mike Crawshaw snared LBW by Pat Moody (1-29) for one and Charles Bourne (8) bowled by Jack Doyle (1-28) before Matthew Bevan (6) fell to Antony Duffy (1-49).

However the Alberbury innings was revived by all rounder Morris who joined Mark Jones in a massive 153 run fourth wicket stand.

Morris included 11 four’s and seven sixes off 74 balls before finally being dismissed by Jamie Martindale (1-32) for a top scoring 104 with Alberbury 173-4.

Jones guided the hosts to 186-5 to defend before his run out by Mike Turner for 42.

Morris (1-18) wasted little time in making his mark in reply with Mitchell Lloyd caught by Jones for a duck.

James Bird (2-22) reduced Beacon to39-3 with Alan Mines (1) and Doyle (19) falling.

However Beacon’s innings was revived by a 43 run fourth wicket partnership led by Turner and with support from Martindale.

The stand was finally brought to an end by Myles Thomas (2-23) with Martindale snared LBW for five before Moody fell for a golden duck.

The collapse continued with Lara Jones celebrating the key wicket of Turner (51) before Dave Clark (1) was run out by Bourne.

Jones completed her 3-26 with Charles Higgin caught by Bevan for seven before Martin Lewis was run out by Morris for six to seal Beacon’s demise for 109 in the 29th over.

Meanwhile Welshpool’s scheduled second division clash with Chirk along with Bishops Castle’s fourth division meeting at home to Bridgnorth IIIs were both cancelled with waterlogged pitches.

Elsewhere Builth Wells’ first division fixture with Abergavenny and the third division games between Knighton on Teme and Builth Wells IIs and Presteigne at home to Wormelow were also cancelled in the GB Liners Marches League.
