NEWTOWN slipped to a one wicket defeat at home to Shifnal in Henshalls Shropshire League One.
The hosts were on the ropes following a top order collapse with Aaron Knight snared LBW for a duck by Calvin Priest before John Antony was caught by Howard Insall off Priest for nine.
Ricky Davies departed to Amar Jassel (1-13) for two and before Sam Cooke was trapped LBW for five to complete Priests’s 3-32.
When Tom Anderson (17) fell to Shaun Lorimer it left the hosts on just 66-5.
Ryan Davies was joined by Sam Morris in a 15 run fifth wicket stand before being caught by Tom Gough off Lorimer for a top scoring 37.
Lorimer (4-17) made light work of the home tail with support from Vivian John (1-7) completing Newtown’s demise for 91.
Newtown produced a remarkable bowling display with Anderson (6-21) and Dave Anthony (2-27) reducing Shifnal to 39-7 in reply.
Insall offered defiance in a 16 run eighth wicket stand alongside Paul Gough before he was caught by Aaron Knight off Bryant Galpin (1-31).
However Shifnal secured the slenderest of victories as Tom Newnes (21no) and Priest (12no) formed an unbroken 26 run partnership to guide their side to 92-9 and glory
