WDDYN Park in Llanwddyn will once more echo with the sound of football on Saturday.

Llanwddyn Football Club, which folded earlier in the summer, will take on a team of club legends at the village ground on Saturday, kicking of at 3pm.

The legends team is dominated by stars of the club’s finest hour, the 1999 Village Cup winning side.

Organiser Craig Scott, a member of the 1999 cup winning squad, said: “Unbelievably about 90 per cent of the original team are turning up to play. One lad is coming back from Bristol just to play.”

The club existed with unbroken membership of the Montgomeryshire League from 1964 to 2010 when it folded.

The club reformed last season but due to a lack of changing facilities at Wddyn Park were forced to groundshare at neighbouring Llanrhaeadr.

However with the club no closer to a return to Wddyn Park and suffering from a shortage of players the decision to withdraw from the Montgomeryshire League was made in June.

Soon after it was decided to arrange a legends match at Wddyn Park and honour the club with a game on the hallowed turf for the first time in a decade.

Manager Jamie Williams said: “It will be a great way to end what has been an eventful 12 months for the club and hopefully we can get a big crowd down to Wddyn Park for its first game in more than 10 years.”
