ANDREW Jones led by example as Llanidloes stormed to a six wicket win at Ludlow IIIs in Henshalls Shropshire League Seven.

The Daffodils remain in prime position to challenge for promotion from division seven as Jones’ masterclass batting display helped Llanidloes return to winning ways following two consecutive defeats.

Eogan Jones (1-30) struck early to dismiss home opener Joe Webb (11) before Ben Roberts was joined by James Lawrence for the second wicket.

The partnership ended with Russell Swallow (1-17) toppling Lawrence for a top scoring 33 while Roberts was caught by Eogan Jones off Will Denham for 31.

Denham (3-29) included the wicket of Joe Reynolds, caught by Dave Moody for 18, while the ever reliable Adrian Foulkes (3-40) eroded the hosts middle order resistance to leave Kate Brazier (25no) and Ludlow to defend 152-9.

Denham joined captain Andrew Jones in laying down a marker in reply before his departure, caught by Albert Wall of Reynolds for 24.

Reynolds completed his 2-18 with the wicket of Eogan Jones (4) while the Foulkes was caught by Cohen Reynolds off Webb (1-32) for 16.

Andrew Jones completed his half century before being caught by Lawrence off Wall (1-32).

However Llanidloes were not to be denied a deserved victory in south Shropshire with Moody (29no) and Gerrard Owen (12no) forming an unbroken fifth wicket stand to guide their side to 156-4 and victory in the 29th over.

Meanwhile the remainder of the Henshalls Shropshire League weekend programme was devastated by rain, including Newtown’s first division clash at Shelton.

Bishops Castle’s meeting at home to Madeley IIs was also cancelled along with Montgomery IIs scheduled home clash with Condover in Henshalls Shropshire League Five.

Elsewhere Welshpool IIs were also left kicking their heels as rain prevented their division eight match at Condover IIs being played.
