WELSHPOOL celebrated a five wicket win at home to derby rivals Montgomery to boost their Henshalls Shropshire League Two survival bid.

Pool lost opener Nick Davies cheaply, caught by Aaron Ruff-Cock off Tom Hughes (1-33) for a duck, before Paul Chapman (18) fell to Edward Bennett (1-24).

Dan Chodecki and captain Russell Cadwallader galvanised the home order with an encouraging third wicket stand before Chodecki was run out for 32.

Cadwallader continued to lead the Pool attack with middle order support from James Breese before being caught by Andrew Barker off Ieuan Griffiths (1-41) for a top scoring 53.

Alex Bromley (1-53) celebrated the wicket of James Breese (39) with Patrick Davies (33no) and Chris Proctor (0no) forming an unbroken sixth wicket stand to see Pool to 196-5 to defend.

Tom Bowen (3-31) made his mark with early wickets in reply with Ruff-Cock (7), Charlie Clinton (2) and Tim Davies (14) all falling cheaply.

Griffiths revived the Monty order alongside Barker before the latter was stumped by Chapman off Rob Anderson who completed his 2-30 with Griffiths caught by Breese for 42.

The Monty middle order continued to make inroads with Rob Bennett and Bromley working the scoreboard.

However Bromley was caught by Cadwallader off Breese (1-48) while Bennett fell to Matt McWhinnie who completed his 2-34 with Charlie Kinsey caught by John Bills for four.

With the match still in the balance the Monty tail end looked to rally but Tom Corfield was run out for five before Patrick Davies (1-36) toppled Ed Bennett to complete the visitors demise for 183 in the final over.
