NEWTOWN IIs tasted derby glory with a commanding 78 run at home to Montgomery IIs in Henshalls Shropshire League Five.

Rowan Currie-Jordan struck early to remove home opener Dai Brown for a duck with Ian Hancocks also sent back to the pavilion by Morgan Matthews (1-40) for one.

However surviving opener Matthew Knight pinned together the Town innings alongside Ricky Davies for the third wicket before falling to Currie-Jordan (2-43) for 27.

Davies (34) led a strong middle order before departing to Sam Davies (1-29) with Matt Humphreys also run out by Rob Yewdall for 21.

Yewdall (1-25) maintained pressure on the middle order with Callum Foulkes dislodged for eight but brother Danny Foulkes worked the scoreboard before being caught by Ross Wilkinson off Dave Jones (1-42) for a top scoring 65.

Ralph Barraclough (22no) was joined by Jonathon Davies (4no) in an unbroken eighth wicket stand to steer Newtown to 206-7 to defend.

Matthew Jones carried his bat in reply but Monty lost regular wickets as Humphreys (2-13) and Brandon Baynham (1-17) removed the top order with ease.

Jonathon Davies (3-24) swept through the Monty middle order to leave Jones (42no) and Brian Corfield (19no) unbeaten and the visitors challenge over at 128-8.
