NEWTOWN maintained their positive pre-season with a 3-3 draw at home to AFC Liverpool at a sun drenched Latham Park on Saturday.

With manager Chris Hughes and assistant Callum McKenzie unavailable the reins were handed to coaches Craig Williams and Mattie Lewis.

Summer signing Ian Sheridan converted Nick Rushton’s steered header across the box before the latter was denied a second for the hosts by the offside flag.

The North West Counties League side rallied and led 2-1 at the break before the Robins restored parity with Sheridan completing his brace.

The Liverpudlians looked to have snatched victory by restoring their lead with 10 minutes remaining only for Joe Kenton to unlock the visitors defence with a skilful run before feeding Sam Phillips to net.

Elsewhere Llanrhaeadr celebrated their first win since returning to Tanllan with a 7-0 victory over Cefn Rangers.

Mattie Jones, Gus Harris and new signing Matt Williams each struck twice with Marc Griffiths also on target.

Earlier in the week Llanrhaeadr travelled to MMP-NL Mid Wales League One side Caersws and returned 2-0 winners with goals from Mattie Jones and player-manager Lee Green.

Llanfair United tasted a 2-0 friendly defeat at South Wales Championship side Goytre United while fellow North Wales Championship side Penrhyncoch were also 2-0 losers at home to South Wales Championship side Haverfordwest County.

Llanidloes Town celebrated a convincing 3-0 win at home to MMP-NL Mid Wales League One rivals Carno with goals from Connor Bird, Dewi Allen and George Clarke.

MMP-NL Mid Wales League One side Aberaeron suffered a 9-2 defeat at home to South Wales Championship side Briton Ferry Llansawel with Gareth Severs and Elwyn Edwards netting consolations.

Knighton Town also found themselves on the receiving end of of a heavy defeat with South Wales Championship side Cwmbran Celtic easing to a 7-0 win at Bryn-Y-Castell while Bow Street lost 5-4 at home to Caerau Ely.

Meanwhile Watson Financial Mid Wales League South champions Talgarth Town played their part in a thrilling 5-5 draw at home to Neath League side Cwm Wanderers.
