NEWTOWN climbed the Henshalls Shropshire League One table with a 23 run victory at Bridgnorth IIs.

Dave Laird and John Anthony combined in a 45 run opening wicket stand before the latter was caught by Niall Adam off Matthew Bowdler Jones who completed his 2-34 with Aaron Knight caught by Patrick Smallman for three,

Newtown were reduced to 65-4 when Laird was caught by Jack Welch for 36 before Cameron Wallis completed his 2-32 with Anderson caught by Smallman for a duck.

However Sam Cooke (19) and Sam Morris (14) pinned together the Newtown innings with a 35 run fifth wicket stand before both departed in quick succession to Lewis Hurdley (3-25).

Joe Monk (17) led tail end resistance with an 18 run seventh wicket stand alongside Dave Anthony (7) before both fell to Ross Hurdley who snared Jamie Smart LBW for a duck to complete his 3-23 and leave Newtown to defend 151.

Anderson (3-24) included Charlie Walker, caught by Monk for 19, in his haul to reduce Bridgnorth to 39-4 early in their reply.

Bryant Galpin (2-24) and Laird (1-24) made inroads into the middle order before Monk completed his 2-18 with Matthew Martin caught by Paul Hawthorn for a top scoring 31.

Lewis Hurdley led tail end resistance until his departure, caught by Cooke off Dave Anthony (2-23) for 18, completed Bridgnorth’s demise for 128 in the 42nd over.
