POWYS returned home from the NASUWT Athletics Championships in Brecon with 26 medals won.

Just a week after the county's young stars impressed at the Welsh Junior Championships many of the athletes were back in action at Brecon's Penlan stadium.

Welshpool's Maddie Griffiths stormed to gold in the under 14s 1,500m cup in a time of 5.13.66 while Llanfair Caereinion's Emily Gallier claimed a gold medal in the under 14s 200m plate in 28.60 and Welshpool's Gwenyfer Kuipers topped the podium in 44.12 to win the under 14s girls 300m cup.

Llanfair Caereinion's Millie Evans' throw of 18.42m earned gold in the under 14s discus plate with Newtown's Dominic Walker also a champion with a distance of 11.10m in the under 16s boys shot plate.

Welshpool's Dottie Evans also claimed a gold medal in the under 16s triple jump plate with a distance of 9.80m while a time of 13.61 earned a bronze in the under 16s girls 100m plate.

Llanfyllin's Jamie Marsden-Jones also claimed two medals, winning silver in under 16s boys 300m cup in 38.54 and bronze in the high jump with an effort of 1.55m.

Meanwhile Newtown's Dylan Downs' leap of 10.38m earned a bronze medal in the under 16s boys triple jump plate to go with a silver from the 800m plate medal for a time of 2.15.57.

Llanfair Caereinion's Keira McVeagh was also a double medallist with a throw of 8.59m earning a silver in the under 16s shot cup and a time of 28.38 claiming bronze in the 200m.

Newtown duo Aled Breeze and Oliver Jones both picked up silver medals with Breeze finishing in 4.38.51 in the under 14s 1,500m cup with Jones second in the under 16s boys 1,500m plate in 4.36.66.

Deri McCluskey completed Powys' 1,500 medal haul with a silver in the under 16s 1,500m cup in 4.38.26.

Welshpool's Seren Kershaw medalled with a silver her reward for a finishing time of 2.35.38 in the under 14s 800m cup with Newtown's Tom Jarman also a silver medalist with a throw of 31.68m in the under 16s boys discus plate.

Meanwhile Llanfair Caereinion's Joshua Jones claimed bronze in 42.26 in the under 14s 300m plate with Mari Davies also bronzing in the under 14s 100m plate in 13.93 and Kelsie Webster's 4.34m leap earning a bronze in the under 16s long jump cup.

Welshpool's Zoe De Zeeuw ended third with a bronze in the under 16s 800m plate in a time of 2.40.77 while Newtown's Sam Wall threw a distance of 32.54m for third in the under 16s javelin plate while Ed Wilson of Llanfyllin completed Powys' medal haul with a bronze for a throw of 35.75m in the under 16s javelin cup.
