RHAYADER’S new pump track will be “biggest and best” in the United Kingdom.

Work began on the historic addition to the town this week, a culmination of five years of planning with funding from the Welsh Government, Powys County Council, Laura Ashley Foundation and The National Lottery Community Fund.

Designer Arran Cartwright of Clark and Kent Contractors said: “It will be the biggest track in the UK and first split track sprint race pump track. The best in Wales and possibly the country.”

It is hoped that the track will improve leisure facilities while encouraging tourism.

Town councillor Rhys Thomas said: “I think we really are the biking capital of Wales and with this addition probably in the United Kingdom.”

Kelvyn Curry of Rhayader Recreation Association said: “We hope that this will be a great draw for the community and bring visitors to the area.

“People in Rhayader should be proud to have such an asset.”
