SAM Jones has joined Principality Premiership champions Merthyr Tydfil.

The winger departs Premiership rivals RGC with a heavy heart having come through the junior set up to make himself a star of the North Wales regional club.

However the Llanidloes based star conceded the four hound round trip to Colwyn Bay had become “increasingly difficult” and has now joined Merthyr Tydfil.

Jones said: “RGC has been a big part of my life from when I left home at 16 to join the academy, study at Rydal Penrhos High School and studying at Bangor University.

“It’s been a privilege to play for RGC senior team over the past four seasons.

“I have had many highs and lows throughout my time in North Wales including some injury problems which have prevented me from playing as many games as I would of liked to but the highs have included promotion to the Premiership, winning the cup and playing against the Welsh national squad.

“I would like to thank all the players, coaches and staff who have helped me and the fans who travel up and down the country to support us on a weekly basis.

Jones added: “I am looking forward to the next chapter and I wish all the RGC boys the best for the upcoming season and the future.”
