LAKESIDE Golf Club hosted its annual primary schools golf festival last week.

More than 300 children from across the area took part in the annual event at the popular Garthmyl course halfway between Newtown and Welshpool.

Among the schools to be represented were Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng, Bryn Hafren and Berriew Primary School.

Welshpool sports development officer Ryan Davies said: “The aim of this festival is to give local children the opportunity to try golf and with the hope of them joining Lakeside Golf Club.

“It is a superb facility and all the children enjoyed their day and trying their hand at a sport some may not have tried before.

“Hopefully some will continue to play and join a local club in the future and continue the region’s reputation of producing sporting champions.”

“A massive thank you to all volunteers who assisted in the day and to Grant Edwards for co-organising.”
