ALBERBURY’S testing Henshalls Shropshire League One campaign continued with a 106 run defeat at Shrewsbury IIs.

Andy Holloway (1-42) struck to remove opener Tom Somerville, caught by Oliver Corbett for 39 but surviving opener Jon Anders proved a tougher obstacle.

Anders was joined by Richard Williams in working the scoreboard for the second wicket before the latter was caught by Corbett off Sam Morris for 32.

Matthew Bevan (3-50) made inroads into the Shrews middle order before Anders was finally caught by Corbett off Morris (2-41) for a top scoring 75.

Dan Manders (30no) pushed Shrewsbury to a commanding 220-7 for Alberbury to chase.

Bradley Thornton (2-5) and Carl Rogers (1-24) had Alberbury on the ropes in reply before Andrew Wynne and James Wynne led middle order resistance.

However Andrew Wynne departed to Manders (1-35) for 22 with Somerville (3-26) including James Wynne (23) in his haul.

Holloway fell for a duck to Mark Jenks (1-15) before Myles Thomas looked to dig in and protect the tail end only to fall to Edward Griggs (2-11) for 20 and complete Alberbury’s demise for 123 in the 35th over.

Meanwhile Alberbury IIIs celebrated a 103 run win at home to Pontesbury IIIs in the first division of the Henshalls Sunday League.

Joss Elliott (61), James Hearle (38) and Oliver Pope (31) opened strongly before Rhys Phillips (44no) pushed Alberbury to 213-4 to defend.

Cormac McGoldrick led Pontesbury’s reply before departing to Gareth Phillips (3-13).

Lewis Todd (4-13) and Pope (2-21) made light work of the remainder of the Pontesbury order to complete their dismissal for 110 in the 34th over.
