ORGANISERS heaped praise on sponsors McDonalds and Freedom Leisure after the 2018 Montgomeryshire Sports Awards were saved.
The event was held at Newtown’s Theatr Hafren last Thursday with 400m hurdles star Lauren Williams from Trefeglwys crowned 2018 Montgomeryshire Sports Personality of the Year.
Organiser Dave Peters praised supporters of the event which had been set for the scrapheap when Powys County Council withdrew financial support at the turn of the year.
Instead a band of volunteers grouped together to save the popular event with the support of McDonalds and Freedom Leisure.
“The event would not have gone ahead without the support of both,” said Peters.
Meanwhile Angela Williams and Tricia Turner were recognised for their long standing commitment to the event by being awarded with a Special Contribution to the Sports Awards accolade.
