NEWTOWN IIs fell short in a 46 run defeat at home to Broseley in division five of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

Opener Kelvin Rogerson top scored before being caught by Dai Brown off Sam Cooke (4-28) for 53 while Kieran Osborne (34) fell to Rowan Swanson (2-11).

Dave Wilkinson (2-47) and Jonathon Davies (1-22) completed Broseley’s demise for 128-9.

Newtown suffered a collapse in reply with Dan Handley (2-41) striking early before Gavin Daniel (2-9) and Osbourne (2-14) made their presence felt with only Richard Smout (10) and Callum Foulkes (9) offering resistance.

Alfie Oakes (2-22) and Ash Postance (2-10) polished off tail end resistance to leave Brandon Baynham (10no) and Newtown all out for 82.

Meanwhile Montgomery IIs also endured a day to forget in a 75 run defeat at home to Wem IIs.

Keith Griffiths caught and bowled Wem opener Josh Gough for 38 with David Jones (3-32) including the wickets of Jack Davies (31) and David Barnett (22) in his haul.

Rob Yewdall (3-33) accounted for the middle order but not before James Astley (39) and Ben Parry (24) guided the visitors to a commanding 198-9 for Monty to chase.

Matthew Jones (22) and Ieuan Griffiths (29) led Monty’s reply before both fell to Keith Higgins (3-16).

Gough (2-27), Matthew Tudor (2-25) and Barnett (1-29) destroyed the Monty middle order and despite the best efforts of Charlie Kinsey (20) and David Jones (18) the duo fell to Parry (2-24) to leave Montgomery all out for 123.
