MORE than 30 primary and secondary schools too part in the annual Powys Schools Golf Association (PSGA) and Wee Wonders event at Builth Wells Golf Club.

Ysgol Calon Cymru dominated the podium with Aaron Evans (6) the gross winner with 69 while the nett titles were secured by Grace Edwards (8) in the 0-12 handicap event with 70 while Ceri Jones (16) won the 13-24 handicap trophy with a nett 64.

Gwernyfed’s Ethan Gardiner (36) claimed glory in the 24 and over handicap competition with 72.

The secondary nine hole stableford competition was won by PK Jones of Calon Cymru (36) with 23 points with Toby Williams (36) from Llanidloes leading the challenge in second..

The nine hole primary school stableford competition was won on the count back by Llanelwedd’s Harry Edwards (28) from Cefnllys’ Rueban Baker (23) after both ended on 19 points

The over all best nett/gross team trophy was awarded to Calon Cymru’s Aaron Evans, Ceri Jones and Ruben Edwards.

Meanwhile under 14s players contested the Powys County Council sports development unit organised Wee Wonders.

Llanidloes’ Cerys Williams won the Year 8 and 9 category with Talgarth’s Owen Meredith seeing off the challenge of Llanidloes duo Evan Williams and Owain Jones in the Year 6 and 7 event.

Joshua Jones of Cefnllys won the Year 4 and 5 competition with Builth Wells’ Aled Davies and Talgarth’s Charlie Williams completing the podium while Knighton’s Joshua Alderton saw off Chloe Edwards of Llanelwedd and Builth Wells’ Rhys Jones in the Year 2 and 3 category.

Meanwhile a selection process has taken place for the Welsh Schools Golf Championships to be held at Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club on June 26 and 27.

Powys will be represented by Llanfair Caereinion’s Tomi Bowen along with Calon Cymru trio Aaron Evans, Matthew Duggan and Zak Baker and Brychan Price-Davies and James Herdman of Gwernyfed.
