BUILTH Wells maintained pace with the first division pacesetters with a two wicket win at Abergavenny.
Mike Williams (3-35) terrorised the home top order while support from the inform duo of Dylan McPhee (2-32) and Sam Williams (2-22) restricted Abergavenny to 143-9 with Ryland Wallace (31no) top scoring for the Gwent hosts
Builth looked to its middle order to lead their challenge in reply with Aled Powell (44) supported by Sam Williams (26) and Chris Roff (23) in spearheading the innings.
However Nick Francis (6-22) dominated the hosts wicket haul and ensured the match remained in the balance.
It was left to McPhee (18no) to guide the Bulls over the line to 144-8 in the 31st over and complete a two wicket victory which ensured the Powys side consolidated third place in the table.
Meanwhile Presteigne proved no match for Wormelow IIs in division three.
The top order duo of Ian Herbert (78) and Ashley Smith (65) laid solid foundations for the hosts before Robbie Jones (27) helped steer Wormelow to a commanding 243-6 to defend with Fred Chilman (2-19) leading Presteigne’s attack.
Presteigne were always up against it in reply but opener Mark Ammonds offered defiance and led the chase.
However the Welsh side lost regular wickets as Neil Bloomfield (3-25) terrorised the top order before Dan Hale (2-18) struck the middle order.
Jeewan Puri (4-6) toppled Ammonds for a top scoring 43 to spark a Presteigne collapse with their dismissal complete for 83 in the 21st over.
Elsewhere Builth Wells IIs home clash with Knighton on Teme was cancelled due to the weekend rain.
