GUILSFIELD caused a shock with captain Dave Lewis leading by example in a two wicket win at home to Column in Henshalls League Six.

The Shrewsbury side posted a commanding 262-4 to defend with William Stanford-Davies (111no) in inspirational form and supported by Adam Harris (50) and Ben Tipton (26) while Rupert Shingler (2-47) led the home attack.

Guilsfield were on the ropes in reply as David Harris (8) and Jordan Evans (1) fell to Jon Yardley (2-50) while Andy Pugh (9) and Shingler (1) departed to Harris (2-29).

Captain Lewis steadied the ship and was joined by Gary Griffiths and David Williams in changing the fate of the game.

Griffiths offered crucial support, posting 58 before being caught by Tipton off Stanford-Davies who completed his 2-58 with the prize wicket of Lewis, caught by Brenton Fairey fora top scoring 94.

Fairey (2-40) also bowled Williams for 57 having earlier dismissed Garry Lewis (8) to keep the game in the balance.

However Guilsfield were not to be denied with Rhodri Davies (1no) and Jacob Lloyd (0no) forming an unbroken ninth wicket stand to steer the villagers to 263-8 and victory in the 39th over as the villagers maintained their fine start to the season.

Meanwhile Llanidloes’ season continued its promising start with Rob Davies (57no) starring in a seven wicket win at Ellesmere IIs to stay top of division seven.

Huw Winter (23no) and Jason Wirdnam (18no) guided the hosts to 125-4 to defend with Davies (1-16), Adrian Foulkes (1-12) and Callum Jones (1-21) taking wickets for a confident Llanidloes.

Captain Andy Jones laid solid foundations before being caught caught and bowled by Lee Davis (1-24) for 35 in reply.
