IAN Hancocks led Newtown IIs to a five run victory at home to Wellington IVS in Henhsalls League Five.

Dai Brown (35) laid foundations before Sam Morris (48) and Hancocks (66) took centre stage and offered defiance to Phil Davies (3-33) and guide Newtown to 192-5.

Wellington enjoyed a bright start to their reply with Alex Brasenell (25), Ed Bushnell (31) and Richard Atherden (19) impressing before Ricky Davies (2-28), Paul Hawthorn (1-41) and Brandon Baynham (1-46) struck.

Dave Wilkinson (3-41) swept through the Wellington middle order with Adrian Casey (25) among his victims to leave Josh McDonald (45no) and the visitors all out for 187.

Meanwhile Montgomery IIs celebrated a three wicket victory at home to Much Wenlocx.

David Jones (4-26) was joined by Rob Yewdall (2-25) in restricting the visitors to 115-9 to defend with Zak Kinsey (36) and Matthew Green (20) top scoring.

Bradley Themans (3-22) led Much Wenlock’s attack in reply while Mike Pygott (2-20) included the wicket of Ales Matthews (1g) in his haul before Keith Griffiths (45no) and Richard Jones (10no) formed an unbroken eighth wicket stand to steer Monty to 117-7 and glory.

Elsewhere Alberbury IIs stormed to a seven wicket win at Knockin IIs.

Ed Roberts (3-27) and Lawrence Fletcher (3-13) starred with Neil Savage (2-24) in support while Eric Heath (19) guided Knockin to 103 to defend.

Jonathan Green (23) laid foundations in reply before Andrew Wynne (18no) and Sahim Zaza (15no) combined for the fourth wicket to guide Alberbury to 106-3 in 27 overs.

Welshpool IIs tasted a two wicket defeat at Much Wenlock IIs in division eight.

Adam Gannon (2-24) led the Pool attack in restricting the hosts to 164-6 with Sam George (43) and Dave Arnold (28) top scoring.

Arnold (4-31) and George (3-30) starred in reply with Toby Pygott (2-19) in support while Rupert Redway (18) led Pool’s challenge which ended for 120 in the 40th over.
