GUILSFIELD Reserves added the Llansantffraid Village Cup to their JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League Honda Division One trophy with a 2-1 win over Forden United in Llansantffraid on Friday.

Forden made the early running and could have broken the deadlock only for Ryan Jenkins to be thwarted by goalkeeper Barry-Jon Lloyd from the penalty spot following a foul by Harry Clifton.

However Forden were ahead when Jake O’Donnell converted after good work by Charlie Edwards.

Guilsfield hit back to level before t6he break with veteran Danny Barton steering home Jon Gamble’s cross.

Guilsfield completed their comeback on the hour with Gamble crossing for Barton to square for Harry Garthwaite to net.

The final continued to ebb and flow as the rivals had their spells of possession but with no further score it was left to Guilsfield Reserves to celebrate being crowned Llansantffraid Village Cup winners.

Forden manager Jonny Roberts remained upbeat despite defeat with the village side still having one more chance to end the season with silverware in this weekend’s Boys and Boden Montgomeryshire League Cup final against Bishops Castle Town.

“A huge congratulations to Guilsfield Reserves who have been the stand out team this season in winning the league and cup double,” said Roberts.

“We always knew we were going to be in for a tough day and not taking our chances in the first-half eventually told as Guilsfield were brilliant in the second-half and were able to seal their victory.

Roberts praised the standard of the Montgomeryshire League this season.

“The tough competition has supplied us with will have set us up brilliantly as we make our step up into the Mid Wales League next season,” said Roberts.
