NEWTOWN tasted Henshalls League One defeat for the first time this season with a slender 10 run defeat at home to Shelton.
The home side’s bowling attack enjoyed early rewards with Dave Anthony bowling opener Matthew Morris (3) while Dave Laird bowled Alun Morris (4) before catching Sam Matthews off Tom Anderson for 18.
The Shelton middle order rallied with Ben Matthews (21) and Keith Tate (12) chipping in before both were trapped LBW by Anthony.
Anderson (2-40) and Laird (2-18) completed their wicket hauls as Shelton continued to crumble with Bryant Galpin (2-17) celebrating the wicket of Denzel Phiri, caught by Tom Foulkes for a top scoring 32.
It was left to Anthony (4-14) to polish off tail end resistance and complete Shelton’s dismissal for just 108.
Newtown endured a nightmare opening to their reply as Sam Griffiths struck to dismiss Matthew Knight for a duck and fellow opener Aaron Knight for four.
Simon Jones snared Sam Cooke LBW for four before completing his 2-9 with Laird caught by Ben Matthews for 19.
Ryan Davies led middle order resistance before being caught by Alex Salisbury off Phiri (1-12) for a top scoring 26.
Foulkes fell to Dominic Bradburn3 (3-16) for 23 as the tail end collapsed with Griffiths (4-32) completing Newtown’s demise for 108 in the final over.
