LLANFAIR United took another step toward a league and cup treble with the North Wales Women’s League Cup lifted at Llandudno on Sunday.

United took on league leaders Bethel who arrived at Maesdu Park keen to avenge their North East Wales Cup Final defeat to the Mid Wales side a fortnight earlier.

Both sides created early openings with Sophie Cook going closest for United before goalkeeper Tracey Godsell was tested at the other end.

United ended the half on top with Gemma Jones twice going close and Nia Ellis also spurning an opening

The second-half was an open affair with both sides creating chances.

Jones was denied by the Bethel goalkeeper time and time again with Mary Griffiths and Mary Bailey also seeing goalbound shots blocked.

Bethel had the chance to snatch a last gasp winner only for Godsell to come to the rescue with a one on one save.

United had the final opportunity only for Bailey to steer wide from Sarah Ellis’ free-kick.

The final would eventually be decided on penalties with both sides scoring their opening effort before Bethel missed their second and Griffiths converted for United.

Bethel missed their third penalty with Sarah Ellis’ spot kick putting United on the cusp of glory.

Fittingly it was Godsell who won the day with a save from Bethel’s fourth spot kick to spark wild celebrations from her team-mates.
