Connah’s Quay Nomads 0

TNS 3

A RYAN Brobbel double fired TNS to their first JD Welsh Premier and Welsh Cup double since 2016 with a commanding victory at the Rock Stadium in Cefn Mawr on Sunday.

Two almost identical free-kicks either side of half-time added to an early Greg Draper goal as Scott Ruscoe’s men breezed past Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The Saints had the first sight of goal as early as the fifth minute only for Brobbel to steer his header wide.

Draper broke the deadlock from six yards out after goalkeeper John Danby could only push Adrian Cieslewicz’s effort into his path on seven minutes.

Nomads appeals for a penalty after Jamie Insall went down in the area under pressure from Blaine Hudson were flatly rejected by referee David Morgan

TNS rode out the storm and doubled their lead on 30 minutes with Danby left red faced as Brobbel’s 30 yard free kick from the right wing dipped into the net.

Just five minutes later Michael Bakare attempted to emulate Brobbel’s effort from a free-kick out and forced a good stop from goalkeeper Paul Harrison.

To their credit the Nomads continued to toil with their long ball game ensuring the Saints defence kept busy.

Insall went close before former TNS favourite Mike Wilde failed to convert from close range as the Deesiders started the second-half with intent.

However it was all over on the hour with Brobbel floating another free-kick from wide into the goalmouth with Danby once again found wanting as TNS closed on the silverware.

The desperate Nomads saw a second penalty appeal rejected soon after with Insall once again leading claims after going down in the area under pressure from Kane Lewis.

Nomads frustrations boiled over late on with substitute Andy Owens earning a second caution and red card for simulation before the whistle sounded on TNS’ double winning season.

TNS: Harrison, Lewis (Spender 74), Bodenham, Hudson, Marriott (Nembhard 60), Routledge, Mullan, Cieslewicz, Brobbel, Draper (Ebbe 81). Subs: Roberts, Byrne.
