JONATHON Davies took six wickets as Newtown IIs opened their Henshalls Division Five campaign with a resounding victory at Montgomery IIs.

Davies (6-16) starred with support from Sion Jarman (2-3) skittling their hosts for 64 with only Matthew Jones (19) and Alex Matthews (11) managing double figures for Monty.

Dai Brown (40no) carried his bat in reply and joined by Ian Hancocks (19no) in an unbroken second wicket stand to guide Newtown to 67-1 in 15 overs.

Elsewhere in division five Alberbury IIs slipped to a 45 run defeat at Broseley IIs.

Andrew Wynne (3-13) and Lara Jones (3-17) with support from Steve Jarrett (2-40) restricted the hosts to 142 to defend with Kieran Osborn (38) and Warren Firmstone (20) starring for Broseley.

Alberbury suffered at the hands of Dan Handley (4-9) who was joined by Alfie Oakes (2-10) and Osborn (2-28) in completing the visitors demise for 97 with James Wynne (13) top scoring

Bishops Castle suffered a seven wicket defeat at Acton Reynald in division four.

Steve Denton (2-6) and Dave Langton (2-26) restricted Castle to just 101-5 to defend with Andrew Lewis (42no) and Josh Mills (19no) leading an unbroken sixth wicket stand.

Ian Fox (66no) carried his bat in reply and helped the hosts to 104-3 in 25 overs despite the best efforts of Castle’s Richard Langford (2-49).

Meanwhile Guilsfield fell to a 40 run defeat at Willey IIs in division six.

Allan Williams (4-26) and Sam Birch (3-30) restricted the hosts with Tim Bellett (50) and Graham Ball (34no) helping the hosts to 130-9 to defend.

Despite the best efforts of Jordan Evans (28), Ben Davies (16) and Dave Lewis (10) the Guils were dismissed for 90 in the 28th over of their reply with Ball (3-37), Matt Smout (2-15) and Josh Ball (2-25) doing the damage.

Welshpool IIs division eight campaign opened with a three wicket defeat at home to Albrighton IIs.

Callum Preston (15) top scored as Pool struggled to 70-9 with Hardeep Kumar (5-20) and Lee Barnard (3-9) dominating the wickets.

Rupert Redway (4-23) and Joe Cadwallader (2-21) led the home challenge in reply with Albrighton led to 71-7 and victory by Harmandeep Singh (14) and Stefan Watkins (15no).

Meanwhile Alberbury IIIs tasted a 59 home defeat to Knockin IIIs in Sunday League One.

Ben Davies (4-17) restricted Knockin with Barney Pitt (38), Terry Mutton (29) and George Lawrence (24no) leading the visitors to to 143-9.

Only Owain Roberts (21) resisted in reply as Matt Tunnadine (3-19), Dan Morris (2-12) and Greg Stokes (2-20) completed Alberbury’s dismissal for 84.
