THREE clubs will have applications to join the MMP-NL Mid Wales League considered at the end of season annual meeting.

Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League One champions Penparcau and JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League Honda Division One runners-up Forden United are joined by Watson Financial Mid Wales League South side Knighton Town in making applications to join the second division of the Mid Wales League.

League secretary Phil Woosnam confirmed the application of Trewern United had been withdrawn.

With no club relegated from the Huws Gray Alliance and Llanfair United promoted it looks certain two clubs will be promoted to the first division with second division champions Montgomery Town joined by runners-up Four Crosses.

With the first division running with 15 clubs last season it hands a possible reprieve from relegation to bottom of the table Churchstoke with third placed Hay St Marys ready in the wings to step up from the second division in their place.

With the second division running three clubs below its maximum quota last season it is expected the league will rule against relegation while accepting the applications of the three aspiring clubs.

Penparcau are no strangers to the Mid Wales League and won the first division in 2010 before folding and reforming three years ago.

This season the club added the Emrys Morgan Cup to its Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League One title.

A club spokesman said: “Penparcau FC has applied to progress through the pyramid system and been informed by the Central Wales Football Association they have received our application. We now await to see if we are successful.”

Knighton Town are also no strangers to the Mid Wales League having been among the first division’s leading clubs until withdrawing at the start of the season and dropping into the Watson Financial Mid Wales League South.

The Bryn-Y-Castell club consolidated and is now looking to climb the pyramid once more.

Forden United will make history when the village club steps up to the Mid Wales League next season.

Manager Jonny Roberts has masterminded the club’s progress through the Montgomeryshire League since reforming in 2018.

The club ended the season second in the Montgomeryshire League behind champions Guilsfield Reserves.
