LLANFAIR United had double the cause for celebration over the weekend.

On Saturday the club's senior men's side were crowned MMP-NL Mid Wales League One champions with a 5-2 victory at Kerry sealing promotion to the new North Wales Championship.

Not to be outdone the club's women's side lifted the first of a potential league and cup treble with a 2-0 win over Bethel in Broughton securing the North East Wales Cup on Sunday.

Manager Rhys Stephens said: "It is a massive achievement for the club.

"It’s been a really good league this season and to finish top of it is no mean feat.

"The players have been brilliant and with so many good teams to only lose two games all season with our last defeat on October 6 shows how well we’ve done.

"We look forward to next season knowing it will be tough but relishing the challenge and we are not going into it to just to make up the numbers."

Meanwhile women's team joint-manager Richard Evans insisted his side was taking each game as it came.

"We have two games left in the league but we are feeling no pressure," said Evans who jointly runs the team alongside Karl Seliaerts.

"We have a a great squad of dedicated and committed players and have some very talented players coming through so the future is very bright for Llanfair United Football Club."
