Barry TU 1 Newtown 3
NEWTOWN ended the season with a resounding victory at Barry Town United only to miss out on fourth place on goal difference.
Kayne McLaggon’s 96th minute penalty proved consolation for the hosts but it was enough to see Newtown leapfrogged into fourth place by Caernarfon Town.
Newtown enjoyed a dream start and led on 12 minutes when Joe Kenton’s cross was steered into his own net by Curtis Watkins.
The Robins continued to dominate with Alex Fletcher testing home goalkeeper Oliver Davies from distance with Barry failing to trouble the visiting defence.
Newtown deservedly doubled their lead on the hour with a rifled finish from George Hughes before Steve Leslie maintained his bright form to net from close range with 13 minutes remaining
As the match entered injury time the Robins stood to end fourth after Caernarfon lost at Bala Town.
However with seconds remaining controversy erupted when McLaggon went down on the edge of the area with Barry awarded a contentious penalty which McLaggon converted.
