COBRA secured the North Wales League Two title with a 24 -15 win over Rhyl to spark a night of celebration.

The Meifod side cemented their return to the elite with victory at Dolgellau the previous week and welcomed Rhyl knowing the title would be lifted with a point.

COBRA played with the wind at their backs in the first half and raced ahead as scrum half Lloyd Mayor found a gap in the Rhyl defence and scored under the posts with Will Worthington converting.

A second try followed soon after with the the home side’s forwards splintering the Rhyl scrum and pushed them over their own try line with the loose ball dotted down by flanker Lee Hughes with Worthington converting.

Worthington closed the first-half scoring with a penalty to establish a 17 point lead.

Rhyl rallied after the break and were back in the game with quickfire tries from Reeve Wright and Tom Jones with Richie Williams adding one conversion.

COBRA were not to be denied and ended the season with a 100 per cent home record with captain Hywel Jones powering over after a driving line out with Worthington converting.

Meanwhile Llanidloes brought their season to an end with a 6-0 win at home to Wrexham.

The home side’s victory was founded on their best defensive display of the season with a brace of penalties from Adam Price ensuring the Cae Hafren side glory.

Meanwhile Welshpool booked their place in the final of the Rybrook Landrover North Wales Intermediate Plate with a 36-18 victory at Bangor.

Jason Isaac marked his senior debut with a man of the match display and a try while Ryan Goodwin and Jamie Richards also crossed the whitewash with two penalty tries and a successful day with the boot from Tom Williams ensuring Pool a final date with Rhyl in Ruthin on May 12.
