THE Henshalls Shropshire League restructure will pose new challenges for Powys sides.

This summer Alberbury, Mongomery and Newtown will each field second strings in a new look division five.

Alberbury IIs will be led by Nick Williams with Ed Roberts as vice captain with the Pecknall Farm side bidding for a top four finish with Sahim Zaza leading the batting order and Tom Butler tipped to maintain his strides with the ball.

Montgomery IIs captain David Jones expects a tough campaign but backed his side to be competitive.

Matthew Jones, Rob Yewdall and Lennon Brian are expected to head the run chase while Jones will be looking to Yewdall, Charlie Kinsey, Tom Hughes and Keith Griffiths to take the wickets .

Guilsfield and Llandrinio will be captained by Dave Lewis in division six this summer.

The villagers have lost all rounder Gary West to pastures new and wicketkeeper Andy Trow to Cae Glas but are boosted by the arrival of experienced bowler Rupert Shingler from Welshpool.

Much will be expected of all rounder Sam Birch as the club strive to prove themselves in a competitive league with Lewis thanking sponsors for their continued support.

“We are looking to be competitive,” said Lewis. “It;s a good league and I expect Cound IIs to be favourites for the title.”

Meanwhile new captain Andrew Jones hopes 2019 will mark the revival of Llanidloes who will be competing in division seven this summer.

Jones takes over the captaincy from James Denham who has moved to Oswesty with the new skipper confident the club can start climbing the pyramid.

Jones will open the batting with young opening bowler Eogan Jones serving as vice captain.

All rounder Adrian Foulkes remains integral with Rob Davies and Dave Moody returning to boost the middle order while Russell Swallow and Ryan Jones boost the bowling options.

Jones said: “If everyone is available more regularly I believe we can finish in the top four and maybe higher, I’m very confident we can have a good year.

If we can get all the cricketers we have in Llanidloes available every week we are more than capable of playing at a much higher standard.”

Meanwhile Welshpool IIs will be competing in the newly created division eight in 2019.
