MONTGOMERY head into the new campaign targeting silverware

The Lymore club will once again be captained by Sam Williams who expects his side to be competitive in the restructured second division.

Williams said: “Our aim heading into any season is to push for promotion and hopefully win the league but the division is more competitive than ever this season so we will all have to be at our very best.

“We have a lot of talented players at Lymore and what is great is how much everyone seems to improve each season.”

Last season saw Monty win the Shropshire Junior T20 with Williams in no mood to let go of the cup with retention of the prized silverware among their targets.

Montgomery have kept the same squad as last season and will look to Ieuan Griffiths, Andrew Barker, Thomas Corfield and Aaron Ruff-Cock to score the runs while Ruff-Cock, Patrick Fletcher, Eddie Bennett and Sam Williams will be relied on to skittle teams out.

Williams added: “Pre-season training has gone well.

“Fletcher is bowling faster than ever and I’m excited to see if Lennon Brian, Charlie Kinsey and Tom Hughes can step up from the second team and fulfil their potential and become first team regulars.”

Meanwhile Montgomery IIs head into newly formed Division Five under the stewardship of all rounder David Jones.

Jones said: “It will be tough though as their are some very good teams in the division, but we have a good combination of youth and experience and if we can get off to a good start anything is possible.”

Matthew Jones, Rob Yewdall and Lennon Brian are expected to head the run chase while David will be looking to Yewdall, Charlie Kinsey, Tom Hughes and Keith Griffiths to take the wickets.
