RHAYADER’s iconic Cwmythig Hill hosts two days of motorcycling action this weekend.

The eagerly anticipated Big Weekender will see two days of top quality Hare and Hounds racing at the famous track situated on the outskirts of Rhayader.

Saturday will see youth riders take centre stage with a top quality line-up confirmed.

Organised by Rhayader Motor Club, the event begins at 1pm on Saturday with a 30 minute novice race with classes for 50cc, 65cc, 85cc and trials bikes.

The second race of the day will pit more experienced 50/65cc riders who will take on a longer and more testing route over 75 minutes.

The final race of the opening day will see 85cc small-wheel, 85cc big-wheel, 125cc/150cc head out for a 75 minute race on an extended lap.

With the action concluded the evening will include a presentation of awards.

Meanwhile adult riders will take on the course on Sunday in the King of the Hill Hare and Hounds.

The action commences at 11am and pits championship, expert, clubman, under 19s, over 40s, over 50s, ladies, sportsman A and Sportsman B class riders compete during a two and a half hour race.

The day and weekend will conclude with the presentation of awards to the top three riders.

Rhayader MC spokesman Andrew James invited all to attend one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the club calendar.

“Throughout the weekend their will be a hog roast, licensed bar, rodeo bull and children’s bouncy castle while on Saturday night Angharad Gough will be singing live followed by a Blues Brothers Tribute Band known as the Blueprint Blues Brothers and later on the Karaoke Kid will be rounding up the entertainment

“On site camping is available and all are invited.”

Sunday’s King of the Hill event forms part of the Steve Rowlands and Son Rhayader Enduro Super Series which began last month with the Jack Frost Enduro.

A busy summer schedule includes the third round on Wednesday, June 12 and fourth round on Saturday, July 13.

The Trevor Evans Memorial Enduro forms the fifth round on Saturday, August 24 before the series concludes with the Simon Rees Memorial hare and Hounds on Saturday, October 5.

Among a top quality field is Builth Wells rider Ryan Jones who is defending his 65cc novice champion crown while Rhayader’s Alex Walton will also be among the contenders in Sunday’s championship class.
