Holywell Town 0

NATHAN Leonard signed off his tenure as manager of Guilsfield with a goalless draw at home to Holywell Town.

With Leonard announcing his plans to step down his squad went into the game determined to end the season on a high while also hammering a nail in the coffin of relegation threatened Holywell.

Despite the stakes for the visitors the match proved a subdued affair with neither side at their best.

Both sides carved limited opportunities with Aaron Pomeyie forcing home goalkeeper Mike Jones into action before ex-Guils defender Jon Jones headed wide.

Guilsfield also went close with Chris Cathrall forcing a fine save from Holywell goalkeeper Mike Platt.

The loss of Jake Cook to injury further restricted the Guils’ attacking outlet after the break with Holywell sitting back and soaking up the pressure for much of the half which ended goalless.

Veteran Danny Barton managed to test Platt in one of the few openings while home custodian Jones was also on hand to deny Jamie McCall and Jack Pennington.

However with no goals the match petered out and ended in stalemate.

The result means Guilsfield boosted Mid Wales rivals Penrhyncoch’s survival bid with the Ceredigion side now needing to beat Conwy Borough in their final game at Cae Baker on Saturday to cement their tier two status and doom Holywell.

Meanwhile the Guils will now look to the future with the search for a new manager to build on the success of Leonard who attained two top six finishes during his tenure.
