MARC Griffiths starred with both goals as Llanrhaeadr ended their season on a high with a point against Bangor City.

Having secured tier two status the villagers went into the game determined to sign off their season long tenancy in Llansantffraid on a high in front of a bumper Easter crowd.

The hosts led on 19 minutes when Griffiths’ shot from 25 yards dipped over goalkeeper Nathan Wolland an under the bar.

Bangor rallied with player-manager Gary Taylor-Fletcher heading over before home goalkeeper Jimmy Hayns palmed over a lobbed effort from Alex Boss.

Llanrhaeadr threatened with Iwan Matthews bravely denied by Wolland while Matt Jones also scuffed wide after being picked out by the outstanding Griffiths.

Both sides had chances at the end of the half with Taylor-Fletcher forcing Hayns to tip his lobbed effort over the bar with Osian Hughes firing wide from the resulting corner.

Llanrhaeadr ended the half on top with Tom Evans firing wide before Matthews tested Wolland once again.

Bangor hit the ground running after the break and levelled on 50 minutes with Jordan Piggott and Taylor-Fletcher linking for Gethin Thomas to fire home from close range.

City led on the hour with Taylor-Fletcher heading home after the home defence failed to clear.

Llanrhaeadr were sparked into life with Griffiths’ cross for Matthews whose header forced Wolland into action on 65 minutes.

Llanrhaeadr continued to press and five minutes later Griffiths scrambled his side back on terms from close range.

Taylor-Fletcher’s weak effort was smothered by Hayns before Griffiths went close to his hat-trick at the other end as both sides looked to end their league campaign on a high.

Llanrhaeadr ended the match with a flurry of corners but City held out as the match ended in an entertaining draw.
