ZAK Hughes won his class at the Dolgellau based Rallynuts Stages in Builth Wells last weekend, the third round of the Pirelli Welsh Championship and BTRDA Fiesta Trophy.

The Welshpool driver was joined by co-driver Tom Wood in dominating the N3 class in the Hafren Forest and Sweet Lamb complex and achieve a superb 32nd place finish overall.

Hughes said: “I am so happy to have had another amazing result.

“We now have three wins from three rallies so far this season which has really boosted our championship campaign and feel we have one hand on the championship. Thanks to Philip Paul Car Centre and Powys Transport.”

A host of Newtown Motor Club crews were also in action on the iconic stages.

Dan Evans/Jessica Hockley ended 40th in a Suzuki Swift with Keith Jones/Robbie Pugh claiming 42nd place in a Grooms Garage sponsored Subaru Impreza.

Hywel Davies/Simon Jones ended 45th in their Ford Escort while Elliott Stafford/Lewis Sim crossed the line in 50th place in a Ford Fiesta.

It proved a frustrating day for Darren Pratts and Newtown co-driver Jonny Evans with the duo forced to retire their Ford Escort after just two stages.

The rally was won by Scott Faulkner/Gareth Parry in a Mitsubishi Evo IX following 45 miles of special stages.
