NEWTOWN battled in vain before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Ardudwy in the final of the North Wales Women’s League Cup in Wrexham.
Goalkeeper Willow Weedal made a string of superb saves during the first-half with the Mid Wales side restricting Ardudwy to a solitary goal lead courtesy of Caro Davies.
Newtown were dealt a major blow when Heidi Langford sustained a broken collar bone early in the second-half.
Despite the setback Newtown continued to battle and began to carve their own openings with a shot cleared off the line before a penalty strike from Clare Bonsall was saved by the goalkeeper.
However it was all over when a quickfire double from Heledd Rowlands settled the outcome and ensured Newtown had to content with silver.
Spokesperson Jacqui Loxam said: “It was a disappointing end for the last match of the season but a performance that the squad should be proud of.”
