Caernarfon Town 4 Newtown 1

NEWTOWN endured a Friday night to forget as Caernarfon Town climbed to fourth in the table.

The Robins arrived in North Wales with a depleted side but looking to complete a clean sweep over the Canaries having prevailed in their three previous meetings this season.

However Caenarfon led inside the opening 10 minutes with Darren Thomas releasing Danny Brookwell to round goalkeeper Dave Jones and slot into an empty net.

Brookwell tested Jones two minutes with the Newtown No1 also forced to deny Noah Edwards’ rasping effort as Caernarfon pressed.

Newtown weathered the early storm but struggled to create any clear openings with Alex Fletcher blasting over on 25 minutes.

Former Newtown youngster Jamie Breese doubled the home side’s tally on 33 minutes with a close range strike after Thomas’ shot came back off the bar.

It was all over bar the singing when Thomas was picked out by Edwards to slot home a third early in the second-half.

Caernarfon added a fourth before the hour with Jones denying Edwards only for Cai Jones to lash home the loose ball and leave the home faithful in rapture.

Newtown consoled themselves with a late response from Kieran Mills-Evans but Caernarfon had already done enough to claim a convincing victory in the race to secure home advantage in the Europa League play-offs.
