GIRLS rugby continues to grow in popularity in North Powys with the Rebels club contesting a regional final week.
The side, comprising of players from Newtown, COBRA, Welshpool and Llanidloes clubs, took on Nant Conwy in the final of the RGC under 15s girls cup in Colwyn Bay last weekend.
Despite suffering a heavy 54-5 defeat at the Zipworld Stadium the Rebels underlined their progress over the past 12 months.
It is hoped the Rebels will continue to develop junior players who will progress to represent the two senior side’s in the area, COBRA and Welshpool, as well as the RGC Women set-up.
In June the club will be setting up summer camp geared at encouraging girls new to the sport to take up rugby.
Rebels hub lead Fiona Moss said: "The club has sides from under 7s right through to under 18s and continues to go from strength to strength."
