Newtown 0 TNS 6

TNS closed on another JD Welsh Premier title as Newtown were outclassed at Latham Park.

The Robins have made their home ground a fortress this season but were no match for double chasing TNS with Greg Draper inspiring the Oswestrians with a hat-trick.

It took just seven minutes for TNS to break the home side's resolve with the inform Ryan Brobbel squaring for Aeron Edwards to slot past a rooted Dave Jones.

Jones was kept busy in the Newtown goal, watching Edwards fire over from distance before producing a smart save to turn away Jon Routledge's low volley.

Llanrhaeadr based referee Huw Jones was forced off through injury midway through the half with Cheryl Foster taking over the whistle.

TNS doubled their lead before the break with Jamie Mullan cutting back from the right wing to square for Brobbel to fire home.

Newtown enjoyed their best spell of the game after the break with Jay Denny and Alex Fletcher firing wide.

However it was all over on the hour with Draper lashing home from close range after Blaine Hudson's headed effort came back off the underside of the bar.

Ragged Newtown defending saw Sam Barnes clatter into Draper in the area four minutes later with Jones producing a save to deny the New Zealander from the penalty spot.

Draper completed his brace soon after with a close range finish after Mullan cut back another inviting cross from the right wing.

Substitute Kurtis Byrne joined the rout with 10 minutes remaining with the Irishman stabbing home from close range after Adrian Cieslewicz carved a route through the home defence.

Draper had the final say of the afternoon with a calm finish under the advancing Jones after Brobbel carved open the Newtown defence once more to leave TNS on the cusp of the title.
