MATTHEW Higgins continued his impressive karting career with an action packed weekend in Belgium last week.
The 14 year old from Trefeglwys is the son of former British Rally champion David Higgins who is currently among the top drivers in American rallyin with nine national titles.
Higgins lined up with 42 other entrants in Genk in Belgium for his European karting debut.
Higgins set a hist of fastest laps to end an impressive third overall on the opening day but endured mixed fortunes on day two which led to starting the final in 15th position on the grid.
The teenager climbed to ninth before being knocked off the track and falling back to 32nd.
Higgins staged a brave fightback to claw his way through the field and end 19th overall to climb to ninth in the European Kart Championships after the opening round.
Higgins returns to the continent for the second round in Mariembourg in Belgium on July 6/7.
