DAN Jones retained his Red Bull Neptune Steps Extreme Swim Challenge title with glory in Glasgow last week.
The 22 year old former Welshpool High School student and captain of Oswestry Otters Swimming Club overcame the challenge of nearly 600 other athletes to take glory.
Jones won the silverware upon his debut in 2018 and repeated his feat this year, leading home the rest of the field following 420m of swimming section ins St Marys locks canal and 10.5m of ropes and obstacles.
Jones completed the gruelling course three times to be crowned champion and overcame the plunging temperatures to defend his title.
Despite not undertaking any open water training since last year the Mid Wales star trains full time at the Welsh National Pool in Swansea.
Jones returns to the more familiar surroundings of inside pool swimming next month with the British Swimming Championships in Edinburgh.
