NEWTOWN booked their place in the semi-finals of the North Wales Youth Cup with a rousing 25-12 victory over Wrexham at the Recreation Ground.
A bright start from the hosts led to an early penalty from centre Isaac Davies only for the North Wales visitors to rally with a dominant display yielding two tries with one conversion to establish a 12-3 interval lead.
Newtown were unrecognisable after the break and reduced the arrears with a penalty from Davies before the inside centre capitalised on positive approach play from the forwards with an unconverted try.
Wrexham sought to impose themselves only to be repelled by the disciplined home defence.
Newtown led for the first time when centre Jacob Davies intercepted a pass on the Newtown 10m line and raced the length of the field before offloading to full back Joe Hughes to cross for a try, converted by Isaac Davies.
As Wrexham tired the more agile hosts capitalised with a further try as No8 George Jones crashed over with Davies adding the conversion to the delight of the home crowd.
