ALBERBURY Cricket Club hosted the ICC World Cup last week.

The world famous trophy was touring the country with the Pecknall Farm club one the stop offs on Wednesday afternoon.

Alberbury Cricket Club officials, players and supporters were out in force for their chance to see the famous silverware and pose for photographs.

Meanwhile pupils from Brynhafren Primary School in Crew Green were also invited to celebrate the arrival of the trophy and enjoy a game of cricket.

Club captain James Hearle said: “The day was a fantastic success with lots of children from the local schools turning out in force to see the trophy long with lots of the local community and club members.

“It was well and truly a day to remember.

“Even the bad weather stayed away.

“It was a fantastic representation of the club and everyone involved. “

Hearle was delighted with the event which came as the culmination of much work and organisation by club officials.

“After all the hard work we have put in as a team, in particular Richard Jones, Preston Fletcher, Rene Jones, Ian Crawshaw and myself it was great to see everyone coming together and enjoying themselves.

“It what is most definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The club now looks ahead to the forthcoming Henshalls Shropshire League season with optimism.

The club will be playing in the first division of the newly structured county league pyramid.

Hearle said: “It’s now got our appetite wetted for the upcoming season ahead and of course the Cricket World Cup.”
