NEWTOWN ended their North Wales Women’s League One campaign with a 7-0 thrashing of relegated Caernarfon at Maldwyn Leisure Centre.

Goals from Heidi Langford, Beth Lewis and Clare Bonsall gave hosts a commanding interval lead with Lewis and Langford completing their braces after the break.

A Jacqui Loxam double completed an emphatic victory for Newtown who end the season as the region’s top placed side with second place in the league.

Loxam said: “It was a good game and we are happy with second place.”

Newtown host arch rivals Welshpool in the North Wales Women’s League Cup on Saturday.

Meanwhile Presteigne slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff Met IIs in division two of the South Wales Women’s Premier League with Megan Cosgrave netting a consolation.

Elsewhere Radnor’s faint promotion hopes in division two were finally doused in a 1-1 draw at home to Brecon with Hayley Price on target for the Goats.

Meanwhile Newtown shared the spoils in a 4-4 thriller at home to Stone IIs in the West Midland Men’s Premier League.

Goals from youngsters Oscar Crutchley and and Sam Phillips-Harvey gave Town an early lead only for Stone to recover and level by the break.

Town regained the lead in the second-half with Aaron Ruff-Cock’s lobbed pass picking out Crutchley who rounded the goalkeeper to net.

However Stone once again hit back and looked to have snatched glory when they took the lead for the first time late on.

However Newtown were not to be denied and with seconds remain Connor O’Regan broke from midfield to release Crutchley who completed his hat-trick and saved a point for the Welshmen.
