GIRLS football in Central Wales continues to develop in leaps and bounds.

The Central Wales Football Association (CWFA) under 15s girls side underlined their class with a dominant display culminating in a 7-1 win against Swansea Schools in Newtown last weekend.

Dottie Evans led the Central Wales scoring with a hat-trick while Paris Scofield added a brace with Welsh international Carrie Jones also bagging a double to underline the hosts’ dominance.

Coach Rhys Stephens said: “I was very happy with the performance. Girls football is doing really well in Central Wales.”

Girls football has been on the rise in the region for several years with the CWFA Performance Centre regularly meeting at Newtown Football Club’s Latham Park for training, matches and tournaments.

Earlier in the month the venue hosted teams from six Central Wales clubs for a successful competition while Newtown High School is in the quarter-finals of the Welsh Schools U15s Girls Cup.
