NEWTOWN celebrated a 28-7 victory at home to Caernarfon in the North Wales Youth Premiership.

An entertaining opening spell saw both sides attack before the hosts broke the deadlock with prop Liam Morris breaking through before releasing centre Jacob Davies to cross for the opening try.

Full back Rhys Morris added the conversion as Town established an early seven point lead.

Newtown pressed for a second try and were rewarded when man of the match Morris converted his own try before the break.

Caernarfon looked to utilise the wind in the second-half and put the home defence under pressure only for Newtown’s hard working back row to instigate a number of counter attacks.

Newtown put several phases together and midway through the second half put the game to bed.

Newtown were awarded a penalty just inside their own half with the quick thinking Morris kicking into the opposition 22 where the Caernarfon defence spilled possession into the grateful hands of outside-half Nat Jenkins who crossed for a try, converted by Morris.

The home side claimed a bonus point try soon after with Calum Love breaking through a tiring Caernarfon defence to score.

Caernarfon refused to surrender and to their credit snatched a last gasp consolation try but it was too late to prevent Newtown toasting victory.

Elsewhere COBRA’s Youth Cup play-off against Nant Conwy at Bala was postponed.
