COBRA marked the club Presidents’ Day with a battling 17-15 win at home to Colwyn Bay to stay on course for the North Wales League Two title and promotion.

Bay enjoyed a dream start and led with their first attack when Harri Mostyn crossed for a try.

The first half proved a scrappy and error strewn affair as driving wind tested both sets of players.

However Bay doubled their lead before the break with Alex Metcalf racing through following a loose pass to cross the whitewash.

COBRA were dealt a blow on the stroke of half-time with prop Ally Laird suffering a dislocated knee.

The day got even worse when Sion Jones intercepted as pass to race 50 metres for a third try.

COBRA were galvanised and hit back with two pushover tries as No8Jack Jukes and flanker Chris Morris crossed with both converted by Will Worthington.

With 10 minutes remaining the home side completed their fightback with a penalty from Worthington.

However Newtown’s promotion bid faltered in a 28-12 defeat at home to promotion rivals Wrexham.

The damage was done in the first-half with tries from wing Bailey Rae while centre Owen Weston and Jacob Hughes also crossed for tries with Sam Rogers converting.

Wrexham added a bonus point try after the break with Olly Dodd breaking through and Rogers converting.

Newtown dig with a close range try from Twm Jones before Bryan Galpin crossed for a late try, converted by Gaz Williams, but it was too late to save their side.

Llanidloes were made to toil before celebrating a 12-3 win at home to Bangor and avenge an early season defeat in the reverse fixture.

Bangor led through a solitary penalty before the hosts hit back after the break with a brace of late tries from No8 Paul Jehu with one conversion from Adam Price settling the outcome.

Welshpool edged a thrilling victory at Rhyl to return 16-15 winners.

Harry Davies gave Pool a dream start with a 55 metre penalty before Ryan Goodwin extended the visitors lead with a try.

A second penalty from Davies gave Pool an 11 point advantage before Rhyl rallied with a try from Reeve Wright before Tom Jones crossed for a try on half-time.

Jones added his second try after the break as Rhyl led for the first time but Welshpool were not to be denied and hit back with man of the match Davies racing over for the winning try.

Meanwhile Machynlleth chalked a 16-10 win at home to division three leaders Shotton to maintain their promotion bid.

Machynlleth led throughout with tries from Dean Thomas and Tomos Ifan with Kameron Simmonds-Sandy adding two penalties as the home side held firm in second spot.
